Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 25 August 2026

These Terms & Conditions apply to purchases made from Semai Gold through our website, by email, or through a bespoke commission.

Please read these terms carefully before placing an order. By placing an order with Semai Gold, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

1. About Semai Gold

Semai Gold is a London-based fine jewellery brand specialising in made-to-order and bespoke jewellery.

Semai Gold is the trading name of Semai Gold, based in London, United Kingdom.

Email: hello@semaigold.com

Throughout these terms, references to “Semai Gold”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the business operating under the Semai Gold name.

References to “you” and “your” refer to the person purchasing from us or using our website.

2. Our Jewellery

Semai Gold jewellery is made in London between our in-house workshop and trusted specialist craftspeople within the Hatton Garden jewellery district.

Our pieces are produced in small quantities or individually made to order rather than mass-produced.

Because many elements of our jewellery are made, set, finished and polished by hand, very small variations between pieces are natural and form part of the character of handcrafted jewellery. These variations are not considered defects provided that the piece corresponds materially with its description and agreed design.

3. Made-to-Order Jewellery

Unless otherwise stated on the individual product page, Semai Gold jewellery is made to order especially for you after your order is placed.

Our usual production and delivery timeframe for made-to-order pieces is approximately 5–7 weeks.

This is an estimated timeframe rather than a guaranteed delivery date unless we have expressly agreed a specific date with you in writing.

Occasionally, circumstances such as stone availability, specialist setting, hallmarking or other production requirements may result in a longer lead time. If we become aware of a significant delay, we will contact you as soon as reasonably possible.

If you require a piece by a particular date, please contact us before placing your order. We will always do our best to accommodate special dates where possible, but an earlier completion date is only guaranteed where we have expressly confirmed this with you in writing.

4. Bespoke Jewellery

Our bespoke service allows you to commission a piece created specifically for you.

This may include engagement rings, wedding rings, one-of-a-kind jewellery, remodelling inherited jewellery, sourcing particular diamonds or gemstones, custom engraving, or adapting a design beyond the options ordinarily offered by Semai Gold.

The bespoke process will normally include some or all of the following:

  • an initial consultation;

  • design development;

  • diamond or gemstone sourcing;

  • quotation and approval;

  • CAD development and/or 3D rendering where appropriate;

  • design refinements;

  • final design approval;

  • production, setting and finishing; and

  • final quality control.

Bespoke commissions typically take approximately 6–8 weeks from final design and stone approval, although particularly complex designs may require additional time.

We will keep you informed if your commission is expected to take materially longer than originally estimated.

5. Bespoke Quotations & Deposits

Before beginning a bespoke commission, we will provide you with a quotation or other written confirmation of the agreed price.

Gemstones, diamonds and precious metals are subject to changes in availability and market price. Any quotation is therefore valid for the period stated within it and remains subject to stone availability until your order is confirmed.

Once your order has been accepted, the agreed price will not be changed because of ordinary fluctuations in metal or gemstone prices.

The price may change where you subsequently request alterations to the agreed design, stone, dimensions, metal, setting or other specification. Any additional cost will be discussed with you before the additional work is undertaken.

A deposit may be required before bespoke design, gemstone purchasing or production begins. The required amount and payment schedule will be confirmed as part of your bespoke quotation.

Deposits contribute towards work already undertaken, design time, gemstone or material commitments and workshop costs. If you cancel a commission, any amount retained from payments already made will be reasonable and proportionate to the work completed and costs or losses incurred by Semai Gold at the point of cancellation.

Nothing in this section limits any cancellation or refund rights you have under applicable consumer law.

6. Design Approval & CAD

Where a bespoke piece requires CAD development, you will normally receive digital renderings allowing you to review the proposed design before production.

CAD images and renderings are intended to provide a realistic representation of the design. However, computer-generated images cannot reproduce the exact appearance of polished precious metal, gemstones, reflections, surface textures or hand finishing.

Before production begins, you will be asked to approve the important details of your design. Depending on the commission, these may include:

  • overall design;

  • dimensions and proportions;

  • gemstone selection;

  • metal and carat;

  • stone placement;

  • setting style;

  • ring size; and

  • engraving.

Please review all information carefully before providing approval.

Once a bespoke design has been approved and production has commenced, further alterations may not be possible or may incur additional costs.

Your approval does not affect your rights if the finished piece is faulty or does not materially conform to the design and specifications agreed with you.

7. Design Changes

We want you to feel confident in your bespoke design before it is made, and reasonable refinements during the design stage are a normal part of the process.

If you request substantial changes to the original brief, repeated redesigns, a completely new design direction or changes after final approval, additional design or CAD fees may apply.

Where additional fees are required, we will inform you before proceeding with the additional work.

8. Diamonds & Gemstones

Every gemstone is unique.

Natural gemstones may contain variations in colour, tone, saturation, inclusions, internal characteristics and other features created during their natural formation. These characteristics are part of the individuality of natural gemstones and are not necessarily faults.

We make every reasonable effort to represent stone colour and appearance accurately in photographs and videos. However, colours can appear differently depending on lighting conditions, photography and individual screen settings.

Where you are selecting a stone for a bespoke commission, we will provide photographs, videos, specifications or certification where available to help you make an informed decision.

9. Natural Diamonds

Semai Gold sources natural diamonds through trusted suppliers and dealers who share our commitment to responsible sourcing.

Our natural diamonds are sourced as conflict-free diamonds through our professional supply network.

Where a natural diamond is supplied with independent certification, the details of that certificate will form part of the description of the stone.

10. Laboratory-Grown Diamonds

Laboratory-grown diamonds have the same fundamental physical and chemical characteristics as natural diamonds and are assessed according to the same recognised characteristics of carat, colour, clarity and cut.

Semai Gold carefully sources laboratory-grown diamonds according to the requirements of each piece and client.

Laboratory-grown diamonds over 1 carat supplied by Semai Gold will be accompanied by certification from an independent diamond grading laboratory such as GIA, IGI or IGR Global, as applicable to the stone selected.

You will receive either a physical or digital copy of the relevant certificate with your order.

Diamond grading reports are prepared by independent third-party laboratories. Semai Gold does not control the grading decisions or opinions expressed within those reports.

A diamond grading report is not the same as a monetary valuation or insurance valuation.

11. Gemstone Availability

Individual diamonds and gemstones sourced for bespoke commissions are often unique and may simultaneously be available to other buyers through our suppliers.

A stone cannot normally be considered reserved until any required payment or deposit has been received and we have confirmed that the stone has been secured.

If a stone becomes unavailable before it has been secured, we will source suitable alternatives wherever possible.

We will never substitute an agreed centre stone or significant gemstone without discussing this with you first.

12. Recycled Precious Metals

Semai Gold jewellery is made using 100% recycled precious metals.

We work with specialist suppliers and workshops to source recycled gold and other precious metals appropriate for fine jewellery production.

The use of recycled metal does not mean that your jewellery is made from visibly old or previously worn material. Recycled precious metal is refined and processed before being made into new jewellery and performs in the same way as newly mined precious metal of the equivalent alloy and fineness.

13. Hallmarking

Semai Gold jewellery is hallmarked where required under UK hallmarking law.

Hallmarking provides independent verification of the precious metal content of an item.

Pieces below the applicable statutory exemption weight may not require a hallmark.

Where hallmarking is required, this forms part of our normal production process and may contribute to the overall lead time.

14. Ring Sizing

It is important that you order the correct ring size.

Where you provide us with a ring size, we will make the ring according to the size supplied. Semai Gold cannot be responsible for an incorrectly selected size where the ring has been manufactured accurately to the size requested.

If you are unsure of your ring size, please contact us before ordering and we can advise you on suitable sizing options.

Ring sizing can be affected by factors including band width, temperature, finger shape and the fit of other rings worn alongside the piece.

Some designs can be resized after completion, while others may require substantial alteration or complete remaking.

Any resizing requested because an incorrect size was supplied by the customer may incur an additional charge. We will provide a quotation before carrying out the work.

Where a sizing issue results from an error made by Semai Gold, we will of course correct this without charge.

15. Engraving & Personalisation

Please check all engraving details carefully before approving your order, including spelling, punctuation, dates, initials and wording.

Where we provide an engraving preview or proof, you are responsible for confirming that the information shown is correct before engraving begins.

Once personalised engraving has been completed, it may not always be possible to alter or remove it without affecting the jewellery.

If Semai Gold makes an engraving error that differs from the wording or design approved by you, we will correct the error at our expense.

Over many years of wear, engraving may gradually soften or fade as the surface of the metal naturally wears. This is considered normal wear rather than a manufacturing fault.

Engraving can normally be refreshed as part of our aftercare service.

16. Heirloom Remodelling & Customer-Supplied Materials

We are happy to consider remodelling inherited or existing jewellery and, where appropriate, working with gemstones supplied by you.

Older jewellery and gemstones can contain wear, fractures, weakened settings, previous repairs or internal characteristics that are not always visible before work begins.

We will take reasonable care when assessing and working with customer-supplied materials and will discuss any significant risks that we identify before proceeding.

However, certain pre-existing weaknesses may only become apparent when a stone is unset, cleaned or worked on.

If we believe a customer-supplied stone or piece of jewellery is unsuitable for the proposed work, we reserve the right to decline to use it or to recommend an alternative approach.

Nothing in these terms excludes our responsibility where loss or damage results from our failure to exercise reasonable care and skill.

Unless otherwise agreed, unused customer-supplied stones or significant precious-metal components remaining after a remodelling project will be returned to you.

17. Product Images & Handmade Variations

We make every reasonable effort to ensure that product photographs, descriptions, dimensions and colours are accurate.

Precious metals and gemstones can appear different according to lighting, reflections and screen settings.

Due to the handcrafted nature of Semai Gold jewellery, particularly pieces with organic, molten, textured, brushed or hand-finished surfaces, your finished piece may contain subtle variations from photography or samples.

These small differences are part of the handmade nature of the jewellery and do not constitute a fault where the piece otherwise conforms to its description.

18. Prices & Payment

All prices displayed on our website are shown in GBP (£) unless otherwise stated.

Prices include any taxes we are legally required to charge where applicable.

Delivery charges, where applicable, will be displayed before you complete your order.

For international orders, customs duties, import VAT, taxes or handling charges imposed by the destination country may be payable separately by the recipient unless expressly stated otherwise at checkout.

We accept the payment methods displayed at checkout or agreed with you for a bespoke commission.

Your order will not normally enter production until the required payment or agreed deposit has been received.

19. Placing an Order

When you place an order, you are offering to purchase the relevant product subject to these Terms & Conditions.

We will send you confirmation that your order has been received.

A contract between you and Semai Gold is formed when we confirm that we have accepted your order.

For bespoke commissions, the contract will normally be formed when the agreed quotation or design proposal has been accepted and the required deposit or payment has been received.

We may decline or cancel an order where, for example:

  • payment has not been authorised;

  • we are unable to fulfil the order;

  • an essential material or stone is unavailable;

  • we reasonably suspect fraudulent activity;

  • fulfilling the order would breach applicable law; or

  • there is an obvious and genuine pricing or product-information error.

If we cancel an order after receiving payment and the cancellation is not caused by a breach by you, we will refund amounts paid for goods or services we are not providing.

20. Cancellation Rights for Standard Online Purchases

If you are purchasing as a consumer online, you will normally have a legal right to cancel an eligible order without giving a reason.

For eligible goods, you may notify us that you wish to cancel at any point after the contract is formed and up to 14 days after the day on which you receive the goods.

You must then return the item within 14 days of notifying us of your cancellation.

This right applies to eligible standard Semai Gold products even where the product has been made following your order, unless it falls within one of the legal exceptions described below.

To exercise your right to cancel, contact us at hello@semaigold.com with your name, order number and a clear statement confirming that you wish to cancel.

21. Bespoke & Personalised Orders

The statutory right to cancel does not generally apply to goods that have been made to your individual specifications or clearly personalised, where the applicable legal exemption applies.

This may include, depending on the circumstances:

  • entirely bespoke jewellery designs;

  • jewellery incorporating personalised engraving;

  • pieces specifically created around customer-supplied gemstones;

  • individually commissioned remodelling work; or

  • jewellery made to specifications outside the standard options ordinarily offered by Semai Gold.

The fact that a standard Semai Gold product is manufactured after you order it does not by itself mean that the item is bespoke or personalised.

We therefore distinguish between standard made-to-order products and genuinely bespoke or personalised commissions when assessing cancellation and return rights.

Your statutory rights in relation to faulty, misdescribed or otherwise non-conforming goods remain unaffected.

22. Returns

For eligible non-personalised online purchases, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order if you wish to return it under your statutory cancellation rights.

Returned jewellery should be:

  • returned safely and securely;

  • protected in suitable packaging;

  • accompanied by any certificates or documentation supplied with it; and

  • handled only to the extent reasonably necessary to inspect it in the way you might in a shop.

You may be responsible for any reduction in value caused by handling beyond what is reasonably necessary to establish the nature and characteristics of the item.

Unless the item is faulty or incorrectly supplied, you are responsible for the cost of returning it to us.

Because jewellery can be valuable, we strongly recommend using an appropriately insured and tracked postal or courier service.

Please do not send high-value jewellery using an uninsured service.

23. Refunds

Where you validly exercise your statutory cancellation right, we will refund the relevant purchase price together with the cost of our standard outbound delivery option where required by law.

If you chose a more expensive delivery service than our standard option, we are not required to refund the additional delivery cost.

Refunds will normally be issued using the original payment method.

We may wait until we have received the returned goods or evidence that they have been sent back before issuing the refund, where permitted by law.

Refunds will be processed within the applicable statutory timeframe.

24. Faulty or Incorrect Jewellery

Every Semai Gold piece undergoes quality control before leaving our workshop.

If you believe your jewellery is faulty, damaged on arrival, incorrect or does not correspond with the agreed description, please contact us as soon as possible.

We may ask you to return the piece so that we can inspect it and determine the appropriate remedy.

This inspection does not limit your statutory consumer rights.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, consumers have legal remedies where goods are faulty, not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose or not as described. Depending on the circumstances and timing, these rights may include rejection and refund, repair or replacement.

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions removes or reduces those rights.

Where the issue is confirmed to be our responsibility, reasonable return postage costs will be covered by Semai Gold.

25. Normal Wear, Accidental Damage & Aftercare

Fine jewellery is made to be worn, but it is not indestructible.

Over time, jewellery may naturally develop:

  • surface scratches;

  • changes to polished or matte finishes;

  • softened engraving;

  • minor dents or marks;

  • wear to claws, settings or bands; and

  • gradual loosening of stone settings through prolonged wear.

These are not necessarily manufacturing faults.

Damage resulting from impact, crushing, accidental force, inappropriate storage, exposure to chemicals or failure to maintain the jewellery may also fall outside responsibility for manufacturing defects.

We recommend that engagement rings, wedding rings and frequently worn stone-set jewellery are professionally inspected approximately once a year.

Semai Gold offers professional cleaning, polishing, engraving refreshes, inspections, repairs and other aftercare services where appropriate.

Charges may apply depending on the work required.

26. Jewellery Care

It is your responsibility to take reasonable care of your jewellery.

We recommend removing fine jewellery when undertaking activities that may expose it to unnecessary force, chemicals or abrasion.

Some gemstones require particularly careful treatment. Emeralds and certain other gemstones, for example, may not be suitable for repeated ultrasonic cleaning.

Please refer to our Jewellery Care Guide for further advice on cleaning and maintaining your Semai Gold piece.

27. Delivery

Delivery options and applicable charges will be shown at checkout or confirmed separately for bespoke commissions.

Where appropriate for the value of the item, orders will be sent using tracked and/or insured delivery services.

Please ensure that the delivery address supplied to us is accurate.

You must contact us promptly if you notice an error in your delivery information. We cannot guarantee that an address can be changed once an order has been dispatched.

Under applicable consumer law, goods normally remain at our risk until they come into the physical possession of you or a person you have identified to receive them.

If you arrange your own carrier and that carrier was not offered by Semai Gold as a delivery option, responsibility may pass to you when the goods are handed to that carrier, as provided by law.

28. Delayed or Lost Deliveries

If a parcel sent using our chosen delivery service is delayed or appears to have been lost before reaching you, please contact us.

We will liaise with the relevant carrier and, where appropriate, open an investigation.

If delivery by a particular date is essential, you must tell us before ordering and we must expressly agree to that deadline in writing.

29. International Orders

We may accept orders for delivery outside the United Kingdom.

International customers are responsible for ensuring that jewellery may legally be imported into their destination country.

Unless otherwise stated at checkout, international customers are responsible for customs duties, import taxes, brokerage charges and other fees imposed by their local authorities.

Customs clearance can occasionally cause delays outside our control.

Nothing in this section affects any mandatory consumer rights that apply to you in your country of residence.

30. Repairs & Alterations by Other Jewellers

If your Semai Gold jewellery requires repair or alteration, we recommend contacting us first.

Work carried out by another jeweller does not automatically remove your statutory rights. However, Semai Gold cannot be responsible for damage, faults or alterations caused by repair, resizing, setting or modification work undertaken by an unrelated third party.

Where possible, we are happy to assess the piece and advise on suitable repair or restoration options.

31. Insurance

We strongly recommend arranging appropriate specialist jewellery insurance for valuable or sentimental pieces, particularly engagement rings, wedding rings and bespoke jewellery.

Semai Gold is not responsible for jewellery that is lost, stolen or accidentally damaged after it has been safely delivered to you, except where applicable law provides otherwise.

If you require an insurance valuation or additional documentation, please contact us to discuss what can be provided.

Diamond grading certificates should not be treated as insurance valuations unless expressly stated otherwise.

32. Intellectual Property & Semai Gold Designs

Unless otherwise agreed in writing, all intellectual property associated with Semai Gold remains the property of Semai Gold or its respective owner.

This includes, where applicable:

  • jewellery designs;

  • drawings;

  • sketches;

  • CAD files;

  • renderings;

  • photographs;

  • videos;

  • text;

  • branding;

  • website content; and

  • original creative concepts.

Purchasing a piece of jewellery gives you ownership of the physical jewellery. It does not transfer copyright, design rights or other intellectual-property rights in the underlying design.

Bespoke designs created specifically for a customer also remain the intellectual property of Semai Gold unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing.

Semai Gold designs, imagery and other content may not be commercially reproduced, copied or used without prior written permission.

33. Inspiration & Third-Party Designs

We welcome reference images and inspiration during the bespoke process.

However, reference imagery is used to understand your preferences rather than to create an unauthorised copy of another designer's protected work.

Semai Gold reserves the right to decline a request that we reasonably believe would require us to reproduce another designer's work too closely.

34. Website Information

We take reasonable care to ensure that information on our website is accurate and current.

Occasionally, typographical errors, technical errors or incorrect information may appear.

Where we identify an error, we may correct the website information.

Nothing in this section allows us to alter an agreed customer contract unfairly or remove rights you have under consumer law.

35. Website Use

You must not knowingly misuse our website, introduce malicious software, attempt unauthorised access to the website or interfere with its normal operation.

You must not use Semai Gold website content for unlawful purposes or in a manner that infringes our intellectual property rights or the rights of another person.

36. Third-Party Services & Links

Our website may contain links to websites or services operated by third parties.

We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices or independent services offered by third-party websites.

This does not affect any responsibility Semai Gold may have where a third-party provider is acting on our behalf in fulfilling your contract with us.

37. Privacy

We process personal information in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Please refer to our Privacy Policy for information about how we collect, use, store and protect your personal information.

PRIVACY POLICY.

38. Events Outside Our Reasonable Control

Occasionally, our ability to fulfil an order may be affected by circumstances outside our reasonable control, including significant supply-chain disruption, transport disruption, natural disasters, serious workshop interruption, government restrictions or other exceptional events.

Where this occurs, we will take reasonable steps to minimise disruption and keep you informed.

This section does not remove any rights you may have where an order is significantly delayed or cannot be fulfilled.

39. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.

In particular, nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights regarding faulty or misdescribed goods or excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Where you purchase jewellery as a consumer, these Terms & Conditions are not intended to limit the protections available to you under applicable consumer law.

40. Complaints

If something has gone wrong or you are unhappy with any aspect of your order, please contact us in the first instance so that we can try to resolve the matter.

Email: hello@semaigold.com

Please include your name, order number where applicable, and a clear description of the issue.

We will aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe and deal with complaints fairly.

41. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms & Conditions occasionally to reflect changes in our business, website, services or applicable law.

The terms that apply to your purchase will generally be those in force when your contract with us is formed.

Any later changes to these website terms will not retrospectively alter an existing contract unless required by law or expressly agreed with you.

42. Severability

If any provision of these Terms & Conditions is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, that provision will be treated as removed or limited to the minimum extent necessary.

The remaining provisions will continue to apply.

43. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions and contracts between you and Semai Gold are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

The courts of England and Wales will have non-exclusive jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the United Kingdom or another jurisdiction, you may also benefit from mandatory consumer protections and rights to bring proceedings available under the laws applicable to you.
